Sleep apnea fatigue and safety: A husband’s concerns


If you have sleep apnea, then you may experience a range of different symptoms, such as fatigue, morning headaches, difficulty staying asleep, and irritability. 

If you notice these symptoms in yourself or your partner, then it may be beneficial for you to look into it further. Sometimes all it takes is a simple sleep test to discover whether or not you are getting a good night's rest by identifying any underlying sleep conditions.

Hear Dan and Becca's story about sleep apnea and how CPAP therapy changed both of their lives for the better.

Dan (Becca's husband): She just wasn't sleeping good. She was snoring. It was loud. It was irregular. She's not sleeping enough. I'm not sleeping enough because she's not sleeping enough. It just gets crazy. It was a safety issue for Becca. She's driving the kids all kinds of places. She's driving herself all kinds of places. She would pull into some parking lot somewhere along the route and she would take a nap. Or she would tell me later, Oh yeah I fell asleep at the stoplight. It was scary as a husband. I knew about sleep apnea and I would make suggestions like you know, your parents both wear masks. Maybe you should check.

Becca: I'm stubborn at heart. So I just figured I gotta deal with it. Just deal with it. Just got to lose weight.

Dan: Well, when she got the medical order to go get tested and get a sleep study, I was really glad for her, because if a doctor said it, I knew she would believe it. That first night, I thought, well, this is going to be different. I'm sleeping next to Ms Darth Vader. This mask on, the little bit of a hiss. But i was so much better than the snoring, I was fine. You know sleeping next to a person with a mask on, it's worth it the next day, because they're awake and they're themselves. She's getting rest. And we have a busy life, and she needs the rest.
